Lauren Morrissey (she/they) is the early childhood development digital organizer at Sojourners and a young leader living at the intersections of their Catholic faith and the reproductive justice movement. To their work at Sojourners, Lauren brings community organizing skills, a deep understanding of liberation theologies, and a passion for young people. She is dedicated to helping families parent the children they have in healthy and safe communities.
In addition to their work at Sojourners, Lauren is the co-founder of the Student Coalition for Reproductive Justice, a student-powered coalition of organizers at Catholic colleges and universities across the U.S. providing essential access to sexual and reproductive health care to young people. Lauren also volunteers as an abortion doula with DC Doulas for Choice, and previously served on an advisory board with the American Society for Emergency Contraception. Lauren has also brought their love for social justice to their work in legal aid at Uptown People’s Law Center in Chicago and communications at Catholics for Choice in Washington, D.C.
Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Lauren is a life-long bi-coastal resident and currently lives in Washington, D.C. Lauren holds bachelor’s degrees in political science and religious studies from Loyola University Chicago, where she studied feminist theology, queer theology, sexual ethics, reproductive rights jurisprudence, and constitutional law. In their free time, Lauren can be found on a sand, grass, or indoor volleyball court; watching classic horror movies; or keeping their Goodreads profile up to date on her latest read.
