The People Have Spoken: They choose Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

We won’t let Trump undermine the people’s voice and democracy which were both on the ballot.

WASHINGTON, DC Joe Biden has been declared the winner in the United States Presidential Election. The election is over and the people have spoken. We want to congratulate President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris and are hopeful about their commitment to both healing and change.

As Christians we are called to love our neighbors and our enemies and prioritize protecting the most vulnerable while advancing the common good. This is a moment in which both political and faith leaders must find the courage and resolve to put our country and the common good over political idolatry and naked ambition. Leaders must stop making reckless statements about election fraud without evidence that continue to stoke partisan and political flames. We are calling for unity in this moment.

Donald Trump’s unwillingness to concede this election is yet another assault on our democracy and marks yet another time Trump has put his own interests ahead of the people. But what Donald Trump won’t accept does not and should not matter. Our democracy is not determined by him, it is determined by the people — and Sojourners along with other faith groups across the country, stands ready to fight to ensure that the will of the people, the will of our democracy, is carried out.

We will not stand idly by while Donald Trump continues to deny the results of this election. Together, we are stronger than one person, and we will work together to ensure our democracy has a peaceful transition. We remain committed to ensuring the peaceful transition of power and will work faithfully and persistently to restore democracy and decency to our country.

“We look forward to working with the new Administration to boldly address the COVID pandemic, systematic racism, economic justice, and climate change as core matters of faith even as we work together to heal our nation from deep polarization,” said Rev. Adam Russell Taylor, President-Elect, Sojourners.

“It is now time for all people of faith and conscience in the United States of America to defend democracy. And all clergy of all faiths and all political persuasions must commit themselves, their words, and their actions, to a peaceful transition of power. It is time to move forward together,” said Rev. Jim Wallis, Founder, Sojourners.
