WASHINGTON, DC - Faiths4Vaccines, a multifaith coalition of religious leaders and medical professionals working to resolve gaps in vaccine outreach, is hosting a national summit on Wednesday, May 26 to support equitable and far-reaching vaccine distribution in the United States.
The summit, which will be held from 1 to 4 p.m., will incorporate training for faith leaders and faith-based organizations to contribute to vaccine efforts in their communities. There will also be information on how to talk to congregations about getting vaccinated and how to serve as a vaccination clinic.
“The Faiths4Vaccine summit is a critical opportunity to empower faith leaders to persuade everyone who can safely take the vaccine to do so in order to advance the common good and embrace the Golden Rule,” Sojourners’ President Rev. Adam Taylor says. “As Christians, we must use our voices and influence to work tirelessly to ensure that vaccines are available to everyone across our increasingly interconnected and interdependent human family. We have a moral imperative to help save lives.”
Some of the country’s top medical professionals, including Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, Dr. Marcella Nunez-Smith, and Dr. Francis Collins, will speak at the summit to answer questions from the faith community about equitable vaccine distribution. Sojourners’ founder Rev. Jim Wallis and several other prominent faith leaders, such as Bishop Michael Curry, Rev. Dr. Walter Kim, Ms. Melissa Rogers, Rev. Gabriel Salguero, Joshua Dubois, and Bishop Teresa E. Jefferson-Snorton, will also be featured.
