Dr. Peter Borgdorff is a graduate of Calvin Theological Seminary (’69), Grand Rapids, Michigan, and was ordained as a minister of the Word in the Christian Reformed Church immediately following graduation. Western Theological Seminary (’90), Holland, Michigan, granted Dr. Borgdorff a Doctor of Ministry degree (D.Min.) upon the completion of his thesis “Transformational Leadership in the Church.”

Dr. Peter Borgdorff served the Christian Reformed Church (CRC) for more than thirty-eight years in a variety of positions. Ten years were spent in congregational settings (Salt Lake City, Utah; and Holland, Michigan), thirteen years were spent in mission administration, and the last fourteen years were devoted to denominational administration. Dr. Borgdorff served as the executive director of the Christian Reformed Church (under various titles) from 1992 until 2006. As the executive director, Dr. Borgdorff functioned as the chief executive officer for the corporate and ministry entities of the Christian Reformed Church in North America.

Upon his retirement in 2006, Dr. Borgdorff has continued to serve the CRC in several capacities but chiefly in ecumenical relations. Dr. Borgdorff returned to fulltime service in 2011 to serve as the Deputy Executive Director. He plans to fully retire (again) effective July 1, 2015.

Dr. Borgdorff has served numerous committees (both in and outside of the CRC) and on the governing boards of Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, Bethesda Christian Hospital, Holland Community Hospital, Call to Renewal, Sojourners and the executive committee of the World Communion of Reformed Churches..

Dr. Borgdorff is married and together with his wife they are the parents of three (3) daughters, two (2) sons (one deceased), and have fourteen (14) grandchildren.
